Frequently Asked Questions

How many homes are proposed?

Our plans are for around 285 new homes on this land.

Why do we need more housing in Wath?

Policy CS 1 of the Council’s adopted Local Plan states that around 1300 new homes are to be delivered in Wath-Upon-Dearne, Brampton Bierlow and West Melton. This H97 site allocation is one of the larger housing allocations which is required to deliver this.  The Council has also safeguarded land to the south of the site, which this development is required to not preclude this coming forward in the future.

How much traffic will the scheme generate?

As part of the planning application a full transport assessment will submitted and is currently being devised by our transport experts.  This will include all aspects of traffic and transport and will be available as part of suite of Planning Application documents.

Why are you putting forward plans for this site?

This site is part of the allocations for housing in the Council’s adopted Local Plan and so the appropriateness and principle of new homes on this site has already been accepted. This proposal will contribute to Rotherham’s current and future housing supply.

How are you consulting on the proposals? Will you hold a public consultation event?

We would have normally held a public exhibition event and invited the local community to attend. However, due to the current Covid-19 situation and Government guidance on socially distancing, this will not be possible in the foreseeable future.

Instead, we have set up this dedicated consultation website and distributed information leaflets including FREEPOST feedback forms to around 1,000 households, so the public can view and comment on the proposals.

How will vehicles access the development?

Access for Vehicle and pedestrian entrance will be available from Doncaster Road, and a potential future link to the southern boundary adjusted to suit existing ground levels.

Why have you included a link road at the southern end of the site?

As part of the Local Plan allocation for this site, we are required to allow for access through the site to land designated as safeguarded in the Local Plan.
